American River's Famed Rapid Given Illegal Resculpting

The Troublemaker rapid may have just gotten a little more troublesome.

It seems some rogue boaters decided on their own to rescuplt the marquee rapid on California's most popular whitewater river by adding some boulders.

The move has left boaters and river purists are fuming.

Troublemaker Rapid on the south fork of the American River. It's named Troublemaker because of the swirling waters there that occasionally flips rafts. Several river guides confirmed that boulders have been added to Troublemaker, increasing the width of the hole and the technical challenge of running it.

Some people want the vandals prosecuted, though it's not clear what charges they would face.
