State Senate Approves BudgetThursday, July 29, 2004 - 04:50 PM
The state Senate approved a 105 billion budget plan today.
The 28-11 vote comes after a two-month budget fight. The state's spending plan now moves to Governor Schwarzenegger's desk, and he is expected to sign it into law Saturday.
Administration officials say the new budget closes a deficit estimated in January at 17 billion dollars, without raising taxes.
Among other things, the budget gives money back to state universities to lift an enrollment cap on incoming freshmen.
The state Assembly approved the budget last night.
