Nesler Hunt Turns To Calaveras CountyThursday, July 29, 2004 - 06:55 AM
The focus in the search for 23 year-old murder suspect William Nestler has now shifted to Calaveras County after Mother Lode law enforcement officials received a tip he might be headed that way.
Tuolumne County sheriff's Sgt. Roger Dittberner says his department obtained an arrest warrant for Nesler, whom they say fatally beat David Davis. Nesler had just been released from the county jail Sunday morning after completing 32 days of a 60 day day sentence for beating the same man. He was freed early because of good behavior and jail overcrowding. Nesler has been booked into Tuolumne County jail 18 times since 1999, when he turned 18
Davis was living on property owned by the Nesler family. Authorities say the original dispute was over some tools.
An autopsy performed Tuesday found that Davis died of massive head trauma.
