Moke Fire 40 Percent ContainedWednesday, June 23, 2004 - 07:50 AM
Firefighters hope to fully contain the Moke fire by Friday. The blaze has charred about 400 acres in rough terrain in the Mokelumne wilderness.
The blaze is located 21 miles southwest of Markleeville, between Highway 4 and Highway 88 near the small Mother Lode town of Pioneer in Amador County. Firefighters are using minimum suppression techniques, according to Jerry Snyder from the U.S. Forest Service Sonora office.
The blaze was 40 percent contained by yesterday afternoon. One hundred and 20 firefighters are battling the fire.
