The California Highway Patrol and police departments continue their maximum-enforcement effort today, targeting drivers who fail to buckle up.
The two-week enforcement will run through June 6 and includes Memorial Day weekend, one of the busiest travel holidays of the year. The maximum fine for a seat-belt violation is $89 for the first offense and $191 for a second offense
And it's not just for drivers but passengers and children, too.
The CHP says drivers cited for improperly securing a child may receive a mark on their driving record and face a maximum fine of $371 for the first offense and $871 for the second.
