Portland Brewing Company To Stop Making Governator AleWednesday, March 31, 2004 - 10:50 AM
A Portland artisan brewing company will bow to the wishes of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
They will stop the selling of Governator Ale -- a popular beer that has been a big seller in California. Portland Brewing Chief Executive Jerome Chicvara said they're NOT going to argue -- but acquiesce to their point of view.
In December, Chicvara sent 4,500 cases of 22-ounce bottles of Governator to California. It was a hit at $2.99 a bottle. The brew became the darling of bloggers worldwide, thanks to articles in CNN and MSN online pages. Bottles of the brew were briefly available at the Sonora Save-Mart .
Chicvara says a couple of hundred cases are still in Oregon. But, he says collectors elsewhere have been paying about $20 for a bottle of Governator on eBay.
