Columbia Celebrates 154th Anniversary with Cake, Song, Games

Monday, March 29, 2004 - 01:45 AM
A horse-drawn carriage passes newly-renovated Columbia buildings at the intersection of Main and State streets at the 154th Columbia Day Celebration.

It was a big weekend for the mining town of Columbia.

Amid newly constructed buildings at the corner of State Street and Main Street, folks young and old came to observe the community's 154th Columbia Day Celebration.

Kids are taught a dice game at the Columbia 154th Birthday Party on Saturday.

The party included a birthday cake, singing, horse-drawn carriages, and some gambling.

Not to worry, the gambling was for wooden nickels.

Residents line up to sample the birthday cake at Columbia's 154th Anniversary Celebration.

It all happened at high noon Saturday in Columbia.
