With California's prison system under fire lawmakers advanced a bill yesterday that would give journalists increased access to inmates. Currently reporters must sign up as regular visitors and are barred from using wire-bound notebooks, tape recorders and cameras -- although the prison provides pencil and paper. A senate bill would let journalists schedule interviews with inmates and use reporting tools.
