Australia boat collision claims sixth victim

A sixth person died Thursday of injuries suffered when a fishing trawler collided with an overcrowded boat in Sydney Harbor, authorities said.

Five people on the boat, all in their late teens or early 20s, died when the vessels collided shortly before 3 a.m., police and hospital officials said.

A man who suffered severe head injuries in the crash died late Thursday or early Friday, Royal North Shore Hospital said.

Eight people who were also riding on the smaller boat were injured.

Police declined to speculate about the cause of the collision, but said alcohol, overcrowding, speed and whether the victims were wearing lifejackets would be investigated.
